Shanmugam Karuppusamy, known by his pen name Shan Karuppusamy, hails from Thalakkaraipudhur near Perundurai, Erode district.
A Tamil writer who has been publishing poetry, short stories, and essays across print and digital media, he received the Sujatha Award for Internet Writing in 2017.
His debut novel Vettattam was adapted into the acclaimed film NOTA (2018). His short story Thangam was brought to screen in Netflix's Tamil anthology Paava Kadhaigal. He co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues of Enemy (2021) and penned the dialogues for Parasakthi (2026).
Beyond writing, Shan is a passionate marathon runner and triathlete, and co-hosts the YouTube channels Saapien Sangam, Saapien Science and Saapien Zeno.
He currently serves as Vice President of Product Management at ELB Learning.
